The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985. This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Code and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. This allows employees and their qualified beneficiaries covered under an employer's group health plan the right to elect to continue their coverage under the plan if their coverage would otherwise end because of certain qualifying events.
